I litterly know nothing  about them, but a few have caught my eye recently.

I could  probably google this but I thought you guys might Be able to add your thoughts.

So whats what? What’s the merc equivalent of, say,  a 3 series?

What’s their  equivalent of an M/rs badge? AMG is good,  right?

Have they got four wheel drive Versions, or are they all rear wheel?

What areare they like to drive, comparable to Beemers and Audi’s?

Ok, your turn. . .

Mercs, Audi's and BMW's are all the same car  All boring, no personality.. Unless you're talking 80's and 90's bmws.

They are all the same to drive, all sound the same, all handle the same and are all owned by the same man

The 3 series equivalent is a C Class. There is the AMG models but also AMG trim, bit like M (3,4,5,6 etc) models and M-Sport models. Buy an Alfa Romeo.

Yeh, I’ve managed to have a look round, now. I’m still going down the Audi route, from what I’ve seen.

The Guilia is nice but it’s slightly out of our price range at the moment as we won’t be buying new.

What Audi? I've found there's a big difference between the A4 and the 3 series. BMW definitely are a better drivers car but this A4 is just brilliant, high quality and so refined and returns between 50-55mpg at 90mph...really impressive. Shite gearbox though.

I’ll be getting an A5. (Black edition quattro)

I’ve had a 2011 s-line A4 for about 18 months and it’s by far the best car I’ve had. I was looking at the 4 series, but I just couldn’t get a BMW. (To many bad memories from working for them)

And, I know what you mean. The beemers are better drivers cars, but the Audi’s feel better built and (IMO) look better.

I had a new A5 a few weeks back as a loan car, not my thing as I have kids and it was a royal pain in the ass having 2 long heavy doors. I also had use of a 62 plate A4 black edition before that and by God the suspension was hard on that thing but it didn't half go round corners well on the 19" alloys. I really liked that car actually and it still felt solid even on 125k miles.

If it's the new shape you're getting then try avoid the S Tronic as it's painfully laggy and borderline dangerous when pulling away onto a roundabout. It never seems to know what you want it to do unlike the BMW ZF box which is superb.

Tbh, ride comfort doesn’t bother me in the slightest, I’d much rather have a better handling car than a comfy one.

Andddddd, Manual gear box every time. If I wanted my car to drive itself I’d buy a Tesla.

Fair enough, ride means a lot to me as I do high mileage and it gets really tiresome on long journeys day after day.

We're just all so old. I bought a Yamaha FJR1300 and just got back from a week in Europe on it. It's basically a sofa on wheels.

Yep all pipe and slippers these days. Don't think i'd ever really want to go back to a amanual car unless it was a weekend toy for a bit of fun...I just can't even be bothered to change gears now. If I could afford a chauffer then I would...but I can't.
