Some friends of mine saw this idea online and wanted to do this for their wedding, so I strapped a GoPro to a bottle of rum and filmed it. Finished editing it all together last week, came out much better than I'd hoped. Check it.

Pretty cool.

It reminds me of POV porn, though. Har har.

GoPros are extremely expensive for what they are, there are better options these days. What do you want to use it for?

Probably just messing around with stuff on the bike. It was just something that crossed my mind, so hadn't really put any great thought into it. I'm sure I could come up with other things to play with, as well.

When yo Say better options, I take it you mean cheaper makes?

Right, gotcha. I see what you mean, there's quite a few different ones for a fraction of the price. Will have to have a look into it.

GoPro are only famous because they were the first people to make a good-quality, full-HD camera which was waterproof and had some fun mounts, so the name is now synonymous with action cameras, however they're not really that special anymore.

They're really square for one, so mounting them on helmets or such they are massive, pull your head to the side and just pick up wind noise. Cameras like the Contour Roam are more suited to helmets probably. Also, GoPros do not have a screen, which makes setting the positioning a pain in the arse. None of them have great battery life. You can get a cheap GoPro now (~£100) but it doesn't have wireless (so you can't use your phone as a viewfinder) and you can't change the battery.

Entirely depends on what you want. Plus remember that generally speaking, videos of stuff going right are immensely boring. It's only the crashes you need to film ;)

Yeah, the fixed ones for cars and action cams are for such different purposes that trying to do both tasks with one just means it does both badly. Action cameras are not good for cars, and the whole point of a dash cam is that it's always there and it's always on - you can't just say "well I don't have the camera with me today as I strapped it to my dog yesterday, never mind I just won't crash today".

GoPro now do a basic model which is about £100 and is okay, Garmin are now doing some which you can plug into bike sensors to give you stats which you ride. Just depends what you want it for, there's not one correct answer anymore.
