Yeah the one I made was more expensive then I thought considering I was getting fairly cheap (but good) parts. Its very easy to upgrade over time though. Are you only using the PC for the one game? thats a lot of cash to throw down for a game.

It would be yes. The scope to expand that sim is immense though with constant add ons and aircraft too. I was just looking for a hobby which I would enjoy but it's looking like a lot of money when it totals up. I might just leave it for a while or until I'm old and fat and confined to an armchair.

Was gonna say, for the money you might be able to affored actual flying lessons. The initial cost for a gaming PC is quite scary at first, but games, media etc is so cheap that you end up saving a lot over money in the long run. But you can get so into it that you end up spending thousands, and before you know it you suddenly have a 3 monitor set up and a complete beast of a pc. Which is the only way to flight sim my friend!

Yeah I've seen set ups like that. This particular sim supports up to 9 monitors apparently. I've seen images of people who create their own cockpits with actual displays and switches everywhere....proper hardcore stuff.

Ian, if you ever get a set-up like that, I'm coming round to play!

PCs are dirt cheap until you want to play modern games, then they become silly money very quickly.

Incidentally, I notice from the URL that this is thread #306. That's a sign that you should definitely do this and buy a silly expensive PC and make yourself a cockpit in your lounge.

As #306 does that mean this thread will be broken up for parts?

Andy, I'm married. If I bought a set up like that...I wouldn't be for much longer.

I'm having visions of fabricating a full 737 cockpit out of hardwood allowing for realistic displays to be fitted and 9 monitors surrounding me where the windows would be. Now that would be a project thread.

I

I was thinking of something like this but with a metal frame underneath suspended on hydraulic lifters on each corner to actually move it in order to have some kind of movement. Obviously I would make it a better standard than this as I think this pic is still under construction.

Then I saw this guy and decided to fuck it all off. Maybe when I'm older and look like him...

I've seen a the 'flight simulator' experience vouchers in groupon. I've thought about it a few times but they're still about 70 quid. Do you realise how many marathons I could buy with that?

At the original price or today's equivalent taking inflation and extra VAT added?
